The ANZAC spirit was not formed on the beaches of Turkey It was formed during the New Zealand Land Wars and we should commemorate the New Zealanders that defended their homes against the world’s first superpower where 2/3 of the British Army attacked woman and children at Rangiriri, Orakau and Rangioawhia

This was the first time Australian and New Zealand troops fought side by side 69 years before the landings at Gallipoli. This is where the ANZAC spirit was formed on the battlefields of New Zealand.

“History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.” Napoleon Bonaparte

Many RSA’s will not mention New Zealand’s first civil war in dawn ceremonies across the country but will place a strong focus on the 100 year  invasion of Gallipoli a battle New Zealand was decisively defeated. Portraying a history that fails to mention both sides that sacrificed their lives either for the British Empire or Tino rangatiratanga
