Nick Smith the housing minister has used a loop hole of re designating land in order to avoid honouring the Treaty of Waitangi. As part of Ngati Whatua and Waikato-Tainui treaty negotiations there is a clause giving individual iwi the right of first refusal when the Government wants to dispose of land in its area.

Dr Smith has decided to breach the Treaty of Waitangi and forge ahead in the name of nepotism offering the land to property developers first.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the property developers that have been given first option donate heavily to the National party coffers.

Nothing is preventing Nick Smth offering Ngati Whatua and Waikato-Tainui and other Iwi first option to be the property developers to resolve the Auckland housing crisis.
