M\u0101ori\u00a0 MPs could schedule\u00a0 3 hui a day over\u00a0 5 days to travel around their rohe.\u00a0 Hone Harawira says &#8220;general seat candidates can spit from one side of their electorate to the other &#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The 3 extra electorates would not necessarily reduce the workload but could scale down the\u00a0huge boundaries.\u00a0 Tai Tokerau would reduce in size from Rerenga Wairua to the north of the Auckland Harbour Bridge &#8211; thus integrating Waitakere into the urban\u00a0 Tamaki region. Two new separate rohe would be\u00a0 South Auckland\u00a0 and Te Wai Pounamu (excluding Wellington) . Tai Rawhiti would end north of Rimutaka.<\/p>\n<p>How would you pay for it? Reduce the number of general list seats.\u00a0 Yes it is\u00a0 great there are 29 MPs who claim M\u0101ori descent\u00a0 &#8211; but\u00a0 there are only four general seat \/list MPs who currently stand up for\u00a0 M\u0101ori issues.\u00a0 The others may have adopted a lie low stance. What will be interesting is how our M\u0101ori MPs vote.\u00a0 Will they vote for rangatiratanga?\u00a0 By the way, I miss the oratory of the M\u0101ori Party\u00a0 and MANA Movement. All the reviews and considered debate is unnerving.<\/p>\n<p>The Royal Commission Report on the Electoral Commission (3.28) , states\u00a0 M\u0101ori interest should be represented in Parliament by MPs who are also members of the M\u0101ori community, accountable to M\u0101ori electors and serve their constituents in ways that correspond to M\u0101ori customs, traditions and expectations.\u00a0 M\u0101ori MPs need fluency in Te Reo, a record of service to the M\u0101ori community and standing in their own tribes.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a tall order.<\/p>\n<p>My orange letter has arrived in the mail- have you noticed that you cannot opt to leave the general roll for the M\u0101ori roll?\u00a0 Perhaps the letter was worded differently for M\u0101ori roll voters?<\/p>\n<p>Publicity is ramped up to the M\u0101ori voter ,\u00a0 no pressure- &#8220;now is the time to choose&#8221;.\u00a0 Where is the k\u014drero about if M\u0101ori got x more votes, they will create another seat or 3-10 new electorates?<\/p>\n<p>If a\u00a0 M\u0101ori voter is unsure about whether they opt for the M\u0101ori or general roll,\u00a0 perhaps they could do a survey about\u00a0their local general seat candidate or party :<\/p>\n<p>i) does he\/ she serve\u00a0 or care about M\u0101ori people and their needs- ?<\/p>\n<p>ii) does he\/she care about the development of Te Reo M\u0101ori, Kohanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa M\u0101ori, Kura a Iwi, marae , hapu needs, Hauora M\u0101ori, M\u0101ori trades training, M\u0101ori broadcasting etc?<\/p>\n<p>iii) is he\/she proactive about reducing the M\u0101ori prison population rtes, improving M\u0101ori health care, decreasing early death of M\u0101ori, building houses for Maori on low incomes?;<\/p>\n<p>iv) is he\/she helpful in supporting sustainable job growth for the local region that will employ locals and M\u0101ori?;<\/p>\n<p>v) does he \/she deal have time in their general constituency work to deal with any M\u0101ori issues.<\/p>\n<p>If your general MP has scored less than one- stay with the M\u0101ori roll.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M\u0101ori voters could create 3 extra M\u0101ori electorates in Parliament by 2020.
