{"id":10627,"date":"2018-01-02T00:19:32","date_gmt":"2018-01-01T11:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/?p=10627"},"modified":"2018-01-02T00:21:54","modified_gmt":"2018-01-01T11:21:54","slug":"lorde-target-in-full-page-advert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/?p=10627","title":{"rendered":"Lorde Target  in Full Page Advert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10630 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad-171x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"171\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad-171x300.jpg 171w, http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad-585x1024.jpg 585w, http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad-570x998.jpg 570w, http:\/\/mananews.co.nz\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Lordes-ad.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 171px) 100vw, 171px\" \/><\/a>NZ Herald , 1 January 2018.<\/b><br \/>\nA FULL-PAGE advertisement has been taken out in\u00a0<i>The Washington Post\u00a0<\/i>calling Kiwi musician Lorde a bigot and accusing New Zealand of prejudice against Israel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The ad on the fifth page of the paper\u2019s December 31 edition \u2014 taken out by outspoken rabbi Shmuley Boteach\u2019s This World: The Values Network \u2014 criticises the 21-year-old for joining \u201ca global anti-semitic boycott of Israel\u201d but still performing in Russia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">It features a large photo of the singer superimposed over a picture of men running through rubble cradling babies with the headline \u201cLorde and New Zealand ignore Syria to attack Israel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Grammy winner this month cancelled a concert scheduled in Tel Aviv for June after criticism from activists in the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement.<br \/>\nThe decision also came after an open letter written by two New Zealand fans argued the concert would show support for Israel\u2019s occupation of Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>The advertisement in the Post says Lorde\u2019s decision showed how a \u201cgrowing prejudice against the Jewish State\u201d in New Zealand was \u201ctrickling down to its youth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It cites New Zealand\u2019s choice in December to vote \u2014 along with 127 countries \u2014 in favour of a United Nations resolution calling for the United States to withdraw its decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>It also criticises New Zealand\u2019s co-sponsorship last year of a UN resolution which condemned continued Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory and caused a six-month diplomatic rift with Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Lorde claims to be concerned with human rights, she hypocritically chose to proceed with her two concerts in Putin\u2019s Russia, despite his support for [Syrian president Bashar al-]Assad\u2019s genocidal regime,\u201d the ad reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s boycott the boycotters and tell Lorde and her fellow bigots that Jew- hatred has no place in the twenty-first century.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The singer has also copped flak from the Jewish Council of New Zealand and the The Zionist Federation of New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s ambassador to New Zealand, Itzhak Gerberg, last week invited Lorde to meet him in person.<\/p>\n<div id=\"jp-post-flair\" class=\"sharedaddy sd-like-enabled sd-sharing-enabled\">\n<div class=\"sharedaddy sd-sharing-enabled\">\n<div class=\"artbody\">\n<p>The NZ Jewish Council has distanced itself from a full-page advertisement in the Washington Post calling musician Lorde a bigot and accusing New Zealand of prejudice against Israel.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the council said the advertisement &#8211; taken out by outspoken rabbi Shmuley Boteach&#8217;s This World: The Values Network &#8211; did not promote understanding or engagement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The New Zealand Jewish Council is committed to dialogue and tolerance and distances itself from the inflammatory and aggressive material that stoops to the level of BDS rather than rising above it,&#8221;
