Mike Butler is the amateur\u00a0historian of the hate group Hobson\u2019s Pledge. Unfortunately, Mike wouldn\u2019t\u00a0know the meaning of the word \u201cobjectivity\u201d if it hit him in the face. Butler\u2019s entire New Zealand history revolves around British colonial benevolence that New Zealand Aotearoa was somehow the exception to the countless land theft invasions and raced-based\u00a0privilege British colonists offered themselves throughout the British empire.<\/p>\n

The denial of the effects of colonisation is obvious in how he squarely blames the\u00a0failures of New Zealand society\u00a0on M\u0101ori for not taking\u00a0 \u201cpersonal responsibility\u201d. The loss of land, economic\u00a0base and the population decline of the Maori race by 47% within 50 years of signing the Treaty of Waitangi are entirely overlooked by Butler.<\/p>\n

Butler’s\u00a0convenient\u00a0amnesia of the effects of British colonisation on indigenous people is so large you could drive a bus through it. In fact, Hobson’s Pledge denies M\u0101ori \/Polynesians are indigenous to this part of the\u00a0South\u00a0Pacific.\u00a0They have trumped up a\u00a0<\/span>conspiracy<\/a>\u00a0theory that the Welsh arrived in\u00a0<\/span>Aotearoa\u00a0prior to M\u0101ori Polynesians.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0an irrational moment, Butler\u2019s \u00a0sent an official information request to the former Treaty Negotiations\u00a0Minister Chris Finlayson.\u00a0The request had the following questions in regards to the\u00a0alleged\u00a0<\/span>rapes committed\u00a0by the New Zealand Armed Constabulary on the 5th November 1881.<\/span><\/p>\n

I took the opportunity to answer\u00a0these ridiculous\u00a0questions on behalf of the Minister<\/p>\n

1.The date or dates on which these alleged offences occurred.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The 5th of November the same day we celebrate a Parliament being blown up in another country on the other side of the world while we hide the significance of this date in our own country so we don’t\u00a0hurt British NZer’s feelings.<\/p>\n

2.The specific location where these alleged offences occurred. Ie Where at Parihaka?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yes\u00a0Parihaka<\/p>\n

3.The number of such offences.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The NZ Armed Constabulary neglected to count or interview the victims<\/p>\n

4.The names or description of the alleged offenders.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The offenders were all wearing Police uniforms the offender’s did not record their own names<\/p>\n

5.The names or number of alleged victims.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NZ Armed Constabulary neglected\u00a0to file a report listing their atrocities.<\/p>\n

6.The ages of the alleged victims.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Many of the victims were children that would mean the NZ Armed Constabulary committed paedophilia<\/p>\n

7.The date when the alleged offences were first reported.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Armed\u00a0Constabulary did not run an investigation into themselves after defiling their victims so no date was recorded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mike Butler\u2019s line of questioning is nonsensical because he deliberately\u00a0evades\u00a0a simple truth.\u00a0The law enforcement agency of the day committed mass rape.<\/p>\n

No one was going to report this crime because there was no one to report it to\u00a0and all the victims were forced into slavery.\u00a0The event itself is considered shameful ..but still in the memories of grandchildren.<\/p>\n

In Butler’s rewrite of the history of Parihaka in this statement<\/p>\n

“soldiers \u201ctook the women and made use of them, cohabitating with them,”<\/em><\/p>\n

Butler ‘s own words”took<\/u>\u00a0the women and\u00a0made use<\/u>\u00a0of them”, <\/em>confirms his personal acceptance of taking women without consent, and compliance to the culture of rape.<\/p>\n

For Mike Butler, the brutal mass rape of Parihaka are\u00a0supposed allegations,\u00a0because none of the villains publicly admitted to rape\u00a0and\u00a0their paedophilia,\u00a0\u00a0therefore\u00a0no criminal act took place. This statement by Butler makes light of British colonial rapists.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere appears to be no end of calls to acknowledge all wickedness by coloniser forebears.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The victims of Parihaka were then enslaved for decades without trial and used to build infrastructure in Dunedin and Christchurch. These\u00a0acts of slavery\u00a0were\u00a0a blatant breach of\u00a0human rights\u00a0and\u00a0the Treaty of Waitangi that promised M\u0101ori the same civil rights as British citizens and undisturbed land rights.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
